April 10–PHELPS COUNTY — A woman from Maryville, Ill., was killed Monday when a Mack truck hit her car in a four-vehicle crash on Interstate 44. Five other people were injured.
The Missouri Highway Patrol identified the victim as Jan R. Fenton, 55, of Maryville.
Police say all four vehicles involved in the crash were heading east on I-44 in Phelps County at about 5 p.m. Monday. The crash happened at the 192.2 mile marker.
Police say it started when a 2011 Mack truck hit Fenton’s 2017 Chevrolet Impala from behind.
Fenton then struck a car in front of her, causing that vehicle to overturn and hit a fourth vehicle.
Fenton’s car ending up driving off the right side of the road. She died at the scene. A passenger, Lydia M. Fenton, 20, of Maryville, suffered serious injuries.
The car Fenton’s car hit was a 2017 Chevrolet Equinox driven by Julia F. Fay, 26, of Jamesville, Wis. Fay’s car overturned, hitting a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado. Fay suffered moderate injuries; passenger Mary M. Fay, 56, of Jamesville, Wis., suffered serious injuries; and passenger Linda R. Hagen, 61, of Waupaca, Wis., suffered minor injuries.
The driver of the Silverado, Stephen R. Tidmore, 29, of St. James, Mo., was uninjured, the patrol said.
The driver of the Mack truck was identified as Tyler L. Davis, 33, of Troy, Mo. He suffered minor injuries. After hitting Fenton’s car, the truck traveled off the right side of the road and hit a guardrail. It stopped on the outer road, blocking the road.
