May 31–A man and woman have been charged in the shooting death of a long-haul truck driver from Ohio found slain in his rig in Birmingham.
Police on Thursday said Rodrakius Gray, 39, and Sheena Dixon, 26, are charged with capital murder in the May 16 death of 55-year-old Derry S. Anderson. The warrants were issued against them on Wednesday.
Anderson was a trucker who was moving a load from Georgia to Arkansas when he was found dead in Birmingham. He was last known by police to be alive the day before his body was discovered.
West Precinct officers were dispatched just before 11:30 a.m. that Wednesday to the Citgo on Bankhead Highway after receiving a tip. Anderson was found in the sleeper area of the truck when they went to investigate that tip.
He was pronounced dead on the scene, and authorities initially said his death was unclassified. A day later, however, the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office ruled the death a homicide.
Police said they cannot yet release the specifics of the case that warranted capital murder charges.
The department’s Crime Reduction Team arrested both suspects without incident. Gray, of Center Point, was booked into the Jefferson County Jail at 5:38 p.m. Wednesday, jail records show. Dixon, of Lincoln, was booked in one minute later. Both are being held without bond.
Anyone with additional information on the case is asked to call Birmingham police homicide detectives at 205-254-1764 or Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.
