Sept. 25–OSKALOOSA — Many Mahaska County residents have stepped up to help the victims of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma, and one local trucking company has partnered with Vermeer to deliver much-needed relief supplies.
Oskaloosa company J Myers Trucking and Pella-based Vermeer are working together to help with clean-up efforts in Florida and Texas.
Jerry Myers, owner of J Myers Trucking, said his company has transported heavy equipment from the Pella-based Vermeer to locations in Florida, including Jacksonville, Fort Meyers and Boynton Beach.
“They load it up there at the Pella plant and we move it to Florida for them, down to the flood victims,” he said. “Right now, we have a truck down there that’s unloaded and we’re trying to get him back out of there, but we have go to through different directions because they have no power. And we’ve got to get loaded and get back up out of there so we can come back and get more if needed.”
Myers said the equipment such as stump chippers will aid in clean-up of the hurricane-ravaged areas. Vermeer is working at providing necessary equipment in a timely manner and J Myers Trucking is helping get the equipment to where it’s needed.
“I don’t know if there’s been anything [publicized] about how efficient Vermeer has been providing equipment for the flood victims,” he said. “And along with that I wanted to [inform the public] that yes, we’re helping to assist moving equipment down there.”
