June 19–Fire at a Roseland trucking company property early Monday sent flames shooting into the sky and caused serious damage to multiple vehicles, according to a Santa Rosa fire official.
Firefighters were sent to Roseland Avenue near the Joe Rodota trail about 2 a.m. Monday for a vegetation fire. That quickly changed to a fire involving burning structures at S S Skikos Trucking Inc., Santa Rosa fire Battalion Chief Mark Basque said.
Firefighters found four, 40-foot trailers on fire, trees torching and cars burning.
“It lit up the night sky,” said Basque.
The fire appeared to have started in or near a squatter’s camp on the property and then spread to the tractor-trailer containers, Basque said.
Company owners have been trying to evict a man, a former employee, who has lived there for years, Basque said.
The fire destroyed two trailer containers and damaged two others. One of the trailers held wine barrels, which provided further fuel for the fire, Basque said. The fire also burned two vehicles and much of the man’s property.
Basque estimated the damage at $75,000 damage.
