Oct. 04–GALESBURG — A new gas station and convenience store will open in the former Mobil station at 2121 E. Main St. by Monday, Oct. 8, employees said Wednesday.
The new store will hire approximately seven employees, said Devin Flanagan, shift leader for the store. The new station will offer eight regular fueling pump stations for cars and one diesel fueling station. Among other drinks and snacks, the store will offer four flavors of Jones Cane Sugar Soda from a soft drink machine and coffee from Farmer Brothers.
Work on the store’s interior started in late August and included new painting in the interior, installing new cash registers, updating the security system and installing six booths that will seat 16 individuals. Workers from Shelley Leasing in Peoria Heights worked on installing the ice machine Wednesday, and the employees are working on bringing in an ICEE machine and other inventory. Otherwise, the store’s interior is complete.
“We kind of had to build the whole thing from the ground up,” Flanagan said. “Everything had to be upgraded.”
The store’s exterior sign also has been installed. The exterior of the store will be painted, including its canopy, which will be painted blue to match the canopy over the pumping stations.
Flanagan estimated that the former Mobil station sold 50,000 gallons of fuel a year and that Crosstie Convenience would bring in about the same amount of profits.
“Pretty lucrative,” Flanagan said of the location. “We get a lot of business from the interstate.”
The station and store are owned by Bryce Bulman, who also owns Sun Garden Apartments in Galesburg. Athens Holdings in Lake of the Hills sold the building to Sun Garden Place LLC/East Main in October 2016.
