Nov. 08–Milwaukee County Acting Sheriff Richard R. Schmidt has ordered stepped-up efforts to stop unsafe trucks from traveling on the county’s freeway system.
Deputies certified in truck inspections check for equipment violations involving brakes, lights, secured loads, suspensions and tires as well as logbook violations.
Unsafe trucks with serious equipment violations traveling at high speeds can create catastrophes on the county’s 158 freeway miles, Schmidt said. He promised that the department will hold trucking companies accountable for equipment violations and will pull over drivers who speed, tailgate and drive recklessly.
“We are changing the culture to avoid catastrophic consequences,” Schmidt said in a statement.
