Sept. 30–The Permian Basin and the state lost two rigs this week, for a count of 486 and 529, respectively, according to oil field services company Baker Hughes.
New Mexico also dipped two rigs to 97, while the U.S. rig count is up one to 1,054.
In the 14 Permian Basin counties with double-digit rig counts, six are unchanged, four gained rigs and four lost rigs.
Those counties that stayed the same this week are Midland, 59; Eddy, 40; Martin, 39; Ward, 24; Pecos, 22; and Andrews, 12.
Reeves, the basin’s most active county, has 77 rigs, an increase of one. Three others all gained two rigs: Loving, 32; Upton, 21; and Winkler, 16.
Losing rigs this week are Lea, 52, down two; Howard, 26, down one; Reagan, 16, down three; and Culberson, 13, down four.
