Aug. 29–The state’s horizontal shale wells produced almost 4.5 million barrels of oil and 545 billion cubic feet of natural gas in the second quarter, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources announced Tuesday.
Natural gas production was up 42 percent from the same time last year, and oil production was up almost 11 percent.
Belmont County was the quarter’s top natural gas producer with 230 billion cubic feet, while Guernsey County was the lead oil producer with 1.8 million barrels.
The 2,002 well reporting production averaged for the quarter:
* 2,242 barrels of oil.
* 277 million cubic feet of natural gas.
* 3,659 barrels of brine.
* 85 days of production.
Horizontal wells in Ohio are most commonly drilled in the Utica Shale and, to a lesser extent, the Marcellus Shale.
