Aug. 15–I-STATE Truck Center has opened in Watertown, conveniently along the 20th Avenue bypass.
Truck sales and servicing is key for area manufacturers, which means I-STATE will be a natural fit for the Watertown community, Chris Schilken, executive director for the Watertown Development Co., said in a news release. Schilken believes that the company’s presence will strengthen the local economy and add quality jobs.
The new, full-service truck center is at 1060 S.W. 10th St. in Watertown. It will be able to service 10 to 15 units at a time. The business expects to hire 10 employees immediately and grow to 20 within a few years.
I-STATE is a dealer for Freightliner, Fuso, Detroit Diesel, Mercedes, Cummins, CAT, Meritor and Eaton and offers related parts and accessories. It began as Interstate GM Diesel Inc. in 1957 and is headquartered in Minneapolis.
It now has eight other stores, including one in Sioux Falls, and others in Minnesota, North Dakota, Montana, and Iowa.
